23 Mar
Summary
- A temporary metal slab connecting a lift to a balcony collapsed.
- Two electricians, father and son, died instantly in the fall.
- The house owner, an engineer, is in critical condition.

A catastrophic failure of a temporary metal slab in Hyderabad's Kundanbagh area has led to the deaths of two individuals. The incident occurred at a residential building in Methodist Colony, where a metal slab, installed to bridge a gap between a lift landing and the third-floor balcony corridor, collapsed.
Devi Das, 60, and his son Vivek, 30, both electricians, lost their lives instantly when they fell from the third floor. The building's owner, 65-year-old engineer Dwaraka Prasad, sustained critical injuries and is currently battling for life. The collapse happened on Saturday morning.
Authorities stated that the lift, installed approximately five years ago, had been malfunctioning for the past three months. On Saturday, the owner had engaged the electricians to address the issue. While they were on the temporary structure discussing the problem, the metal slab, weakened by rust, fractured, causing the fatal fall.
A criminal case has been registered against the owner for causing death by negligence, and an investigation is underway. Police noted that cement had been laid over the iron framework, potentially concealing the corroded metal beneath.
