A tragic car crash on March 8 in Porter Ranch claimed the life of 22-year-old Rafa Ramirez. He was a passenger in a 2015 Acura sedan that collided with a pole and subsequently caught fire. Ramirez was pronounced dead at the scene.
Ramirez is survived by his wife, Jaina, who is due to give birth to their second child, a boy, in July. They also have a two-year-old son, Lucas. The driver of the vehicle, 23-year-old Ernesto Ramos, and another passenger were hospitalized. The Los Angeles Police Department stated that Ramos will face charges upon his release, identifying the incident as a DUI-related crash.
A GoFundMe campaign has been created to support Jaina and her children through this devastating period. The funds will cover funeral and burial expenses, as well as provide for Lucas and the new baby. The fundraiser has already surpassed $35,000 towards a $55,000 goal.
In a separate, similar incident in February, sports host Wes Rucker died in a five-vehicle crash in Tennessee. He also left behind a pregnant wife and a child. Rucker's wife was expecting their second child, a girl, in May.
