A truck driver lost their life and five individuals sustained injuries in a significant crash on the Hume Freeway in northeastern Victoria on Friday afternoon. The collision occurred near Violet Town around 1:30 PM. Reports indicate a B-double truck collided with a road worker's truck, subsequently crossing the median strip and impacting a car.
The B-double truck then rolled and ignited, resulting in the death of its driver at the scene. The driver of the second truck suffered non-life-threatening injuries and was taken to the hospital. Additionally, two adults and two children from the affected car were transported for observation.
Emergency services, including the CFA, Victoria Police, and Ambulance Victoria, attended the scene. The CFA issued a warning regarding a hazardous liquid spill, though assured the public there was no community threat.
