Workers excavating for the Nagpur Metro Phase-II project on Hingna Road made a startling discovery on Thursday. Around 11 am, while digging a pit, labourers unearthed a human skull and bones buried approximately 9 feet below the surface.
The discovery immediately halted excavation work. Police officials and the tehsildar arrived at the scene, and in their presence, the skeletal remains were retrieved. The bones were noted to be significantly deteriorated, suggesting they are quite old and date back several years.
Authorities found no identifiable items or clothing with the remains, providing no initial clues about the deceased's identity or the cause of death. The skeletal remains have been transferred to a forensic team for comprehensive analysis.
The MIDC police have initiated an accidental death inquiry and are awaiting the forensic report to shed more light on this discovery.
