Ennerdale Leisure Centre in Hull is now slated for a 2027 reopening following the discovery of significant structural problems. The facility, which closed in May 2025 for energy efficiency upgrades, will undergo extensive repairs to its swimming pool pipework, which was found to be in much poorer condition than anticipated.
Additional works include a full replacement of the original glazing, funded by Sport England, and general refurbishment. Club chairwoman Sarah Clausen highlighted the ongoing uncertainty and financial strain on members, with swimmers forced to travel further for events. The Kingston upon Hull Swimming Club, previously based at Ennerdale, now faces increased costs for galas hosted in Leeds or Sheffield.
