A dramatic rescue operation unfolded on Tuesday when firefighters were summoned to a pedestrian bridge on Leek Road in Cellarhead, near Stoke-on-Trent. A horse had become dangerously ensnared, with its head stuck fast in the bridge's handrails.
Crews from Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service swiftly deployed to the scene. They employed a telehandler machine, a piece of lifting equipment, to carefully elevate the horse and free it from its predicament. The service extended thanks to a local company, Dalecrete, for providing the necessary machinery.
Despite the successful efforts of the rescue teams and the support of the local community, a somber update emerged on Friday. It was confirmed that the horse, having been freed from the bridge, had unfortunately been euthanized by a veterinarian.
