Hoover Dam Visitor Access Paused Due to Cableway Issue

Visitor access to the Hoover Dam has been temporarily paused as crews work to resolve an issue with the facility's critical cableway system. The U.S. Bureau of Reclamation confirmed the closure on Tuesday, stating that the dam and its power plant remain operational.
The unexpected shift of the 150-ton cableway carriage, which is situated near the parking garage and above the main access road, occurred during routine maintenance. This system is essential for moving large equipment across the river and between Nevada and Arizona.
Officials have secured the area as a precautionary measure. A contractor is scheduled to assess the system further with Bureau of Reclamation staff. While employee and contractor access is being maintained, there is currently no estimated date for when public visitor access will resume.
