New Year's Eve Fireworks Spark Injuries, Arrests in Honolulu

Emergency services in Honolulu responded to numerous fireworks-related incidents during the recent New Year's holidays, leading to multiple injuries. Among those injured was a 7-year-old girl who sustained burns to her extremities and was hospitalized in serious condition.
Paramedics also treated three individuals for injuries from a suspected fireworks blast in Kaneohe, including two women with traumatic injuries requiring hospitalization. Another man was treated for a head injury. The Honolulu Police Department reported responding to 592 calls concerning fireworks violations across the island.
In addition to the injuries, police made at least two arrests for fireworks violations. These incidents occurred amidst stepped-up enforcement and new regulations, a response to a tragic event on the previous New Year's Eve that resulted in six fatalities.
