Hwy 46 Traffic Shift: Expect Major Delays Near Paso Robles
9 Feb
Summary
- Highway 46 will move to a new alignment north of Paso Robles.
- Drivers should anticipate 15-30 minute traffic delays.
- Direct access to Cholame Valley Road and Davis Road will be eliminated.

Beginning Monday, February 9, 2026, drivers traveling on Highway 46 east of Cholame will experience significant traffic delays as the California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) reroutes the highway to a new alignment. This crucial update, scheduled for two days between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m., will move the roadway north of its previous position, taking travelers over Cholame Creek.
Motorists should prepare for delays of approximately 15 to 30 minutes while Caltrans crews execute this traffic switch. The new alignment will introduce changes to local road access, discontinuing direct entry from Highway 46 to Cholame Valley Road and Davis Road. A segment of the former highway will be converted into a frontage road to maintain connectivity for these areas and the Jack Ranch Cafe.
