Summary
- Young man died trying to save a colleague overcome by toxic gas.
- A chemical reaction released deadly hydrogen sulfide gas.
- The incident occurred during a routine well-cleaning job.

A tragic incident in Clyde Township, Michigan, on Tuesday resulted in the deaths of two young men, Daniel Hagle, 20, and Michael Kammer Jr., 21. While performing a routine well-cleaning job at a newly sold home, a chemical reaction occurred when muriatic acid interacted with a substance in the confined space beneath a porch. This reaction released deadly hydrogen sulfide gas, which quickly incapacitated Kammer.
Hagle called for assistance before entering the confined space in a desperate attempt to rescue his colleague. However, he too was overcome by the toxic fumes. Both men were rushed to the hospital but were tragically pronounced dead. Three other individuals were hospitalized for gas exposure and are expected to recover.
Sheriff Mat King of St. Clair County noted that the responding deputies had to retreat due to the dangerous fumes and awaited firefighters with proper personal protective equipment. Hagle is remembered by his family and a GoFundMe page for his bravery, compassion, and willingness to help others, even at great personal risk. Kammer is also remembered as a great kid who loved his family and was always ready to lend a hand.
