Heroic Cousins Drown Saving Boy from Raging Canal

On October 15th, 2025, a tragic incident unfolded on the outskirts of Mysuru city. Two cousins, R Nandan (25) and R Rakesh (20), drowned after rescuing a boy from the raging Varuna Canal.

According to the police, the incident occurred near Badagalahundi village in Mysuru taluk. A local boy named Manju had gone swimming in the canal when he was swept away by the strong current. Hearing his cries for help, Nandan and Rakesh, who were passing by after collecting manure, immediately jumped into the water to save him.

The cousins managed to pull the boy to safety, but they themselves were caught in the powerful current and drowned shortly after. Nandan, the son of Ramesh, had just gotten married 15 days prior to a woman from Channapatna. Rakesh was the son of Ramesh's brother.

The bodies were later recovered and sent to KR Hospital for postmortem. After the autopsy, they were handed over to the grieving family, and the last rites were performed on Sunday. Varuna police have registered a case and are investigating the tragic incident.
