30 Jun
Summary
- A lightning strike caused a power surge at the water treatment plant.
- Approximately 3,000 homes and businesses were affected by the outage.
- A precautionary boil water advisory is in effect until Thursday.

A lightning strike on Monday night caused a significant power surge that knocked the Sunshine Water Treatment Plant offline, impacting thousands of Groveland residents. The surge, which occurred around 7 p.m., interrupted plant operations for approximately three hours. City officials estimate that around 3,000 homes and businesses experienced reduced water pressure or a complete loss of service, particularly in higher-elevation areas.
In response to the disruption, a precautionary boil water advisory was issued Monday evening for all affected customers. This advisory is anticipated to continue through the end of Thursday, contingent upon satisfactory water quality testing and confirmation that all regulatory standards are being met. The city is providing free bottled water at Cherry Lake Park on Tuesday and Wednesday to support residents during this period.
