An 18-year-old hiker succumbed to heat-related symptoms during a day hike to the bottom of the Grand Canyon on June 3. The individual was hiking the Bright Angel Trail from the South Rim to the Colorado River when rangers received a distress call.
Responders located the hiker approximately 30 feet below the trail near Garden Creek. Despite immediate lifesaving efforts and a coordinated helicopter rescue, the hiker tragically passed away. The victim's identity is being withheld pending family notification.
