Road Blunder: Traffic Sent Into Petrol Station Exit
16 May
Summary
- New road markings misguided traffic into a petrol station's exit.
- The error directed drivers across oncoming traffic into a junction.
- Gloucestershire County Council apologized and promised swift repairs.

A significant error in recent road markings in Quedgeley, Gloucester, has led to traffic being incorrectly directed into a petrol station's exit lane and a no-entry junction. The newly painted lane erroneously guides drivers across an oncoming traffic lane to reach the Shell petrol station's junction.
Gloucestershire County Council has issued an apology for the mistake on Bristol Road. Councillor Mark Harris, cabinet member for highways maintenance, confirmed awareness of the issue and stated that arrangements are in place for contractors to correct the road markings promptly. The council aims to replace the incorrect right turn arrow with the proper hatching and markings.
This incident highlights the challenges in road maintenance for Gloucestershire, which oversees approximately 3,300 miles of roads. The council had previously committed an additional £15 million over three years to enhance maintenance and resurfacing projects across the county.
