216-Acre Wildfire Shuts Down Ortega Highway

The Gibby Fire ignited near Ortega Highway and Gibby Road in Orange County on Wednesday, September 2nd, expanding to roughly 216 acres by the afternoon. Firefighting crews from multiple agencies, including the Orange County Fire Authority and Cal Fire, made significant progress from both ground and air. Shelter-in-place orders were enacted for areas such as Rancho Carrillo in Orange County and evacuation zone RVC-2074 in Riverside County.
In response to the wildfire, key transportation routes experienced closures. Ortega Highway, also known as State Route 74, was shut down in both eastbound and westbound directions. Rancho Carrillo Road also faced closure. Fortunately, as of Wednesday afternoon, no structures were reported to be threatened, and the cause of the fire is currently under investigation.
