Man Rescued After Trapped in San Francisco Garbage Truck

Early Wednesday morning, a man was discovered trapped inside a garbage truck in San Francisco after being collected with trash from a dumpster. The San Francisco Fire Department received the call shortly after 4 a.m., initiating a complex rescue operation.

Firefighters arrived and determined the safest approach was to meticulously dig out the garbage around the trapped individual, a process that took approximately two hours. This method was chosen over dumping the entire load to prevent further injury. Paramedics administered an IV to protect against crush syndrome as the rescue progressed.

During the operation, one firefighter sustained a minor cut to his hand and required stitches and a tetanus shot. The rescued man was transported to a hospital. This incident echoes similar past events nationwide, where individuals have been injured or killed after entering dumpsters that were subsequently emptied into garbage trucks.
