The South 24 Parganas district administration is set to employ ISRO-developed NaviC technology to manage and monitor crowds at the upcoming Gangasagar Mela, commencing on Thursday evening. Crowd control will be enhanced by real-time monitoring through 1,200 CCTV cameras, drone surveillance including thermal-imaging, and GPS-guided systems. A 54-km barricaded stretch will regulate movement, supported by 150 NGOs and 10,000 volunteers. Extensive transport options, including 2,500 buses and numerous vessels, are arranged, alongside 16 buffer zones for vehicle flow management.
Safety and sanitation are paramount, with 2,500 civil defense volunteers, QRTs, and disaster response forces on standby. 18 temporary fire stations and 12,300 toilets will be operational, alongside robust waste management and 100 solar street lights. Medical facilities include 5 temporary hospitals, 415 additional beds, 100 ambulances, and 30 critical care units.
