Heavy rains in Maharashtra's Palghar district caused panic on Saturday evening when a Ganesh idol, being transported for the upcoming Ganesh Chaturthi festival, lost its balance and fell. The incident occurred in Nalasopara West as devotees attempted to cover the idol with a tarpaulin amidst a sudden downpour and strong winds.
Several individuals were briefly pinned under the fallen idol. Alert onlookers and local residents swiftly initiated rescue efforts, ensuring no serious injuries were sustained. This event happened just before the commencement of Ganesh Chaturthi celebrations.
Separately, in Thane's Bhayander West, another Ganesh idol tipped over during its arrival procession on the same day. This accident, unlike the Palghar one, resulted in damage to the idol and injuries to at least one young man.
