22 Jul
Summary

A major fire has broken out at a recycling centre in Fife, marking the second such incident at the Lower Melville Woods Waste Facility near Ladybank since May. Residents in the vicinity reported observing substantial smoke billowing from the site. The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service (SFRS) responded promptly, dispatching four appliances and one high-reach vehicle to the scene shortly after 1 PM.
This recurrence follows a significant blaze that occurred on May 12th. During that earlier incident, the fire spread over an area measuring approximately 200m x 300m of landfill waste. The SFRS managed the previous fire until May 27th, handing the site back to Fife Council over two weeks after the initial outbreak. Locals were previously advised to keep windows and doors closed due to air pollution concerns.
