Grieving Father's Protest Lands Him in ICU
26 Jul
Summary
- Father hospitalized amid hunger strike for builder's arrest.
- Crane collapsed from 11th floor, killing 21-year-old.
- Family alleges police shielded construction firm executives.

Abdul Aziz Khokar, father of Muzammil Khokar who died on July 16 after a crane collapsed from an 11th-floor construction site, has been admitted to intensive care. His health declined on the fifth day of his hunger strike outside the Kashigaon police station. Khokar is protesting the police's decision not to name the builder, JP Infra, as an accused.
The crane, over 100 feet tall, toppled from an under-construction building in Mira Road, crashing onto Muzammil, who was taking his evening walk. The family alleges that police have only filed an FIR against the crane operator and site employees, omitting senior executives from the construction firm.
Following the incident, the family filed a writ petition in the Bombay High Court. Khokar's maternal uncle stated that his health condition worsened after approaching the court. Residents had previously warned the builder about operating a large crane in a confined area, but these concerns were reportedly ignored.
