A tragic UTV accident in Maplecrest, New York, on Friday, July 31, has left one youth dead and three others injured. The incident occurred around 7:54 p.m. on a private gravel driveway serving several homes. Four minors, aged 10, 11, 12, and 14, were traveling in the UTV, driven by the 14-year-old. Authorities reported that none of the occupants were wearing seat belts or helmets at the time of the crash.
The vehicle reportedly veered off the side of the driveway, striking a boulder before rolling onto its passenger side. This resulted in the 12-year-old and 10-year-old being pinned beneath the overturned UTV. A neighbor used his truck to lift the vehicle and free the children. The injured youths were transported to Albany Medical Center, where the 12-year-old was pronounced deceased. The 10-year-old remains in critical condition, while the other two passengers sustained minor injuries and were treated at the scene. An investigation into the circumstances of the accident is ongoing.
