A devastating collision on the Bundelkhand Expressway in Banda on Thursday claimed the lives of four family members. Their SUV was struck by an LPG-laden truck while they were en route back to Mahoba from Azamgarh after a religious pilgrimage.
The accident resulted in the immediate death of four occupants in the SUV. A 16-year-old girl sustained critical injuries and required transfer to a specialized medical facility. Initial reports suggest the SUV driver might have lost control due to falling asleep at the wheel.
The force of the impact was catastrophic, with the SUV being significantly crushed under the truck. Engine components reportedly pierced one victim, and the vehicle was reduced from 15 feet to about six feet in length. Airbags deployed but ruptured, potentially contributing to head injuries for front-seat occupants. A case has been filed against the truck driver, and postmortem examinations are underway.
