A fatal hit-and-run incident occurred early Sunday morning on the Grand Central Parkway in Astoria, Queens, claiming the life of a 23-year-old woman. The crash, which took place around 4:07 a.m., involved a gray Honda Accord that was rear-ended by another vehicle.
This impact caused the driver of the Honda to lose control, leading the car to strike a barrier and a light pole before overturning. The 23-year-old passenger, riding in the rear seat, was ejected and sustained severe injuries.
She was transported to Elmhurst Hospital, where she was pronounced dead. The 34-year-old male driver of the Honda was uninjured. Authorities have taken a person of interest into custody but have not yet announced any arrests.
