Icy Roads Trigger Deadly Multi-Vehicle Crash

Heavy holiday travel in Wisconsin was disrupted by treacherous winter weather, leading to multiple crashes, including a fatal multi-vehicle collision. In Ozaukee County, a semi-tractor-trailer jackknifed on Interstate 43, crossing the median and striking two northbound vehicles. One person sustained fatal injuries, while others suffered life-threatening and severe injuries.

I-43 northbound lanes were closed for over five hours as emergency crews worked the scene. This incident was part of a wave of weather-related accidents across southeastern Wisconsin, with reports of other semi jackknifes and vehicles sliding into ditches also occurring in Sheboygan County. Wauwatosa also saw a significant pileup involving a county bus.

Authorities are strongly advising drivers to exercise caution, reduce speed, and maintain extra distance during this period. With an estimated 1.4 million Wisconsinites expected to travel for the Thanksgiving holiday, officials emphasize the importance of safe driving practices amidst snow and ice.
