A fatal house fire in Lawnton, north of Brisbane, has resulted in the death of a teenage girl and left four others critically injured. Emergency services were alerted to the blaze early Sunday morning, finding the home engulfed in flames with its roof partially collapsed. Neighbours were evacuated as firefighters worked to contain the fire.
The four survivors, two teenagers and two adults in their 30s, were discovered on the front lawn with severe burns. Residents had provided initial aid before emergency crews arrived. All four were transported to the Royal Brisbane and Women's Hospital in critical condition.
Investigators are focusing on a lithium battery, possibly from an e-scooter or e-bike found at the property, as a potential cause for the rapid and intense fire. The Queensland Fire Department noted the extreme heat of the blaze, which prevented crews from reaching the trapped individual in time. Premier David Crisafulli expressed deep sorrow over the heartbreaking incident.
