Deadly Garage Fire Claims Three Lives

Tragedy struck Gloucester County in the early morning hours of September 13th, when a structure fire erupted in the 4200 block of Hickory Fork Road. Emergency services, including Gloucester County Sheriff's Office deputies and Gloucester Volunteer Fire & Rescue, responded to the scene around 2:42 a.m.
Upon arrival, firefighters encountered a fully engulfed detached garage with a residential apartment on its upper level. Concerns grew when it was reported that two adults and one juvenile, residents of the apartment, could not be located, prompting fears they were trapped inside.
Adding to the danger, oxygen tanks were reportedly stored on the garage's lower level, potentially exploding and intensifying the blaze. Investigators from the GCSO and the Virginia State Police Bureau of Criminal Investigations were called to the scene.
During the firefighting and investigative efforts, three bodies were discovered within the structure, believed to be the missing residents. The Tidewater Office of the Chief Medical Examiner was notified, and a medicolegal death investigator was dispatched to assist. The source and cause of the fire, as well as the causes and manners of the deaths, are currently under active investigation.
