Fatal Wetlands Crash: Suspected Drunk Driver Kills 53-Year-Old Woman

A tragic collision on Pacific Coast Highway in Huntington Beach on Wednesday night resulted in the death of a 53-year-old woman. The incident occurred around 10:40 p.m. south of Warner Avenue.
According to the Huntington Beach Police Department, the victim was driving a silver Kia Soul northbound on PCH when it was struck from behind by a BMW 328i, also traveling northbound. The force of the impact caused the Kia to veer off the roadway and into the adjacent Wetlands.
First responders, including HBPD officers and lifeguards, located the Kia partially submerged and extracted the woman. Despite immediate medical attention from paramedics and transport to a hospital, she was pronounced dead.
The driver of the BMW, identified as 23-year-old Luka McArgue of Long Beach, was apprehended at the scene. He was booked on suspicion of gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated and driving under the influence of alcohol and drugs causing bodily injury.
The Multidisciplinary Accident Investigation Team is continuing to investigate the crash. Anyone with information is encouraged to contact the HBPD.
