One man has died and another was injured in two separate buffalo attacks in Malaysia's Johor state. The tragic events unfolded on Wednesday, May 27, during the observance of Eid al-Adha.
The first incident occurred around 10 a.m. when a 45-year-old man was gored by a buffalo being prepared for ritual sacrifice. Despite being rushed to Sultanah Aminah Hospital, he died later that evening from injuries to a major blood vessel in his leg.
Eyewitness accounts describe the buffalo becoming agitated and charging the man, goring his thigh. The death is not being treated as criminal. The victim was a father of three, and his family remains in shock.
A second buffalo attack happened in another area of the state at approximately 2 p.m. the same day. The victim, also a 45-year-old man, suffered a fractured left rib cage and received hospital treatment.
Eid al-Adha, one of Islam's holiest holidays, commemorates Prophet Ibrahim's willingness to sacrifice his son. The ritual includes the sacrifice of livestock, with the meat typically shared among the community.
