One person has died and another is in the hospital following a severe single-car crash on Sunday afternoon along the Angeles Crest Highway in Altadena. The incident occurred around 12:45 p.m., near mile marker 62.
Authorities were alerted to the collision through an emergency services request initiated by an Apple device using satellite communication, according to the California Highway Patrol. Paramedics pronounced one victim deceased at the scene, while the second victim was transported to a local hospital with injuries of unknown severity.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation by the CHP. Both lanes of the Angeles Crest Highway were temporarily closed at a nearby tunnel, with normal traffic flow expected to resume by approximately 6 p.m. on Sunday.
