Nedumbassery Accident Accused Seek HC Bail
30 Oct
Summary
- Two accused in fatal accident seek bail from high court.
- Lower courts rejected their bail pleas previously.
- Detention impacts accused's education and future prospects.
Suhail Sajeev and Joel S Anto, identified as the first and third accused, have sought bail from the high court in connection with the fatal Nedumbassery Mini Cooper accident that resulted in the deaths of three young people.
Their bail petitions were filed after Angamaly judicial first-class magistrate court and Ernakulam additional district and sessions court rejected their earlier pleas. The accident occurred on the early morning of October 11, when a car allegedly driven by Suhail at high speed and while intoxicated collided with a scooter.
Both petitioners have been in judicial custody since October 11. They argue that their continued detention will adversely affect their education and future prospects. The defense also stated that police custody has concluded and all evidence is secured, suggesting bail conditions could manage any perceived flight risk.
Joel S Anto further stated that he did not own the vehicle, was not driving, and had no control over its operation during the incident.
