- Thomas Hurst, 84, died after a van swerved into his lane.
- Inquest concluded the van driver likely suffered a seizure.

A fatal collision on the A66 near Keswick occurred on March 1, 2024, when a van swerved into the path of an oncoming car. The driver of the car, 84-year-old Thomas Hurst, tragically died from his injuries, while his stepdaughter, Susan Davidson, was also injured in the crash. The van driver, Carl Davidson, stated he had no recollection of the incident.
An inquest into the crash heard that medical tests and expert analysis suggested Carl Davidson likely suffered a seizure at the time of the collision. Although initially charged with careless driving causing death, the case was dropped after this conclusion. Davidson expressed his devastation and sympathy to Hurst's family. The assistant coroner for Cumbria, Dr. Nicholas Shaw, concluded that Hurst's death was a result of multiple, unsurvivable injuries, calling the event a tragedy.
