A family of four is feared missing after their small aircraft vanished during a flight from the Bahamas to Florida on Monday, September 7, 2026. The plane, a PA-34 Piper, departed Great Harbour Cay at approximately 10:12 a.m. bound for Miami Executive Airport. Its last confirmed contact was around 11:04 a.m., near the western side of Andros Island.
The occupants have been identified as experienced pilot Mario Lamar Sr., 80, his wife Lili Lamar, 79, and their grandchildren, Sofi Sosa, 28, and Christian Sosa, 22. They were returning from a weekend at their second home in Great Harbour Cay when the aircraft disappeared.
Authorities launched a search for the missing plane and its occupants. However, the United States Coast Guard's initial attempts were postponed due to inclement weather. Efforts to locate the aircraft remain a high priority for both Bahamian and U.S. authorities.
