Ex-Police Chief's DUI Crash: Vodka Found at Scene

First responders arriving at a crash involving former Titusville Police Chief John Lau documented the scene with video and photographs. Footage shows Lau being extracted from his overturned, city-issued Chevrolet Tahoe and later secured onto a gurney for transport to the hospital. He sustained non-life-threatening injuries.

The crash report indicated the presence of a vodka bottle, found with approximately one-quarter of its contents remaining. Authorities noted Lau displayed slurred speech and bloodshot eyes at the time of the incident. The Florida Highway Patrol investigated the crash as it occurred outside Titusville's jurisdiction.

Following the incident, Lau was terminated by the city for refusing to undergo a mandatory drug and alcohol test, which contravenes city policy. Deputy Chief Tyler Wright has been appointed Interim Chief while the search for a permanent replacement commences.
