A 53-year-old elephant named Joymoti, rescued from severe northeastern floods, is now en route to Vantara in Jamnagar for specialized care. The elephant was swept away by floodwaters in Nagaland during July and subsequently rescued by local authorities.
Joymoti sustained extensive injuries, including wounds on her forehead, ear, tail area, thigh, and abdomen, alongside a deep, maggot-infested wound. She also suffered damage to her right eye, resulting in blindness, and a fracture in her left hind leg, causing lameness.
While initial first aid and primary veterinary care were provided by rescuers, Joymoti requires specialized treatment due to the severity of her injuries, mobility challenges, and her advanced age. She will undergo treatment at a dedicated elephant hospital within Vantara, receiving care for her injuries, eye condition, and overall well-being.
This critical airlift and specialized treatment highlight the commitment to her recovery and welfare at the animal conservation organization founded by Anant Ambani.
