Electrical Substation Fire Prompts Evacuation and Road Closures in Glasgow

A fire that broke out at an electrical substation in Glasgow's city center on November 12, 2025, has been extinguished by firefighters. The incident, which occurred around 4:30 pm on Saturday, prompted the evacuation of a nearby H&M store and the closure of several roads in the area.

According to the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service, more than 50 firefighters, eight fire engines, a high reach appliance, and a command support unit were dispatched to the scene on West Nile Street to tackle the blaze. Witnesses reported hearing explosions and seeing lights flickering in the area just before the incident.

Fortunately, there were no reports of any injuries. The last fire engine left the scene around 9:40 pm on the same day, and the roads that had been closed during the emergency response were later reopened.

The cause of the electrical substation fire is still under investigation, but the prompt action of the emergency services ensured that the situation was brought under control and the potential for further damage was minimized.
