Holyrood Park Reopens High Road After August Wildfire
20 Oct
Summary
- Edinburgh's High Road reopened after 10-week closure due to wildfire
- Fire burned away gorse, making rock faces safe for pedestrians and vehicles
- Road usually closed to vehicles but open to pedestrians and cyclists on weekends

As of October 20th, 2025, the High Road in Edinburgh's Holyrood Park has been reopened to the public after a 10-week closure. The road had been shut down since a large wildfire broke out on August 10th, during the Edinburgh Festival.
The fire had burned away the gorse that was previously preventing rocks from falling onto the road below. Historic Environment Scotland, which manages the royal park, has now confirmed that geologists have inspected the rock faces and deemed the area to be safe for pedestrians, cyclists, and vehicles.
The High Road is typically closed to vehicles but open to pedestrians and cyclists on Fridays through Mondays. From Tuesdays to Thursdays, the road is open to one-way traffic between 9:30 AM and 3:00 PM. With the reopening, this regular traffic pattern is set to resume in Holyrood Park.
