A critical air conditioning system failure at Echelon Care and Rehabilitation Facility on July 3rd necessitated the evacuation of over 200 patients. The HVAC malfunction occurred around 10:30 p.m., and by the following morning at 7:30 a.m., authorities decided to relocate the 214 residents as a precautionary measure.
An emergency shelter was established at Eastern High School, located across the street from the facility. Throughout their stay at the school, all patients continued to receive their required medical care and services. Facility staff contacted the families of all patients to inform them of the situation and offer the option for pickup.
Patients not collected by their families were to be transferred to appropriate healthcare facilities elsewhere in the state. Significantly, no injuries or heat-related illnesses were reported among the patients during this complex relocation process, ensuring their safety and well-being throughout the event.
