A tragic electric-bike battery fire claimed the lives of four family members in the Bronx earlier this week. The blaze erupted just after midnight on Wednesday, originating from a battery that had been placed in the apartment doorway, subsequently blocking the exit as flames spread.
An 11-year-old boy, Zion Maine, was among the initial victims discovered by firefighters. Tragically, three other members of the household later died from their injuries sustained in the fire. The father, Mr. Maine, is the sole survivor of the incident and was reported to be in critical condition in the hospital.
Plans for Halloween festivities were overshadowed by this tragedy, as Mr. Maine had been preparing to celebrate with his friend and neighbor, Joshua Perez. The family lived in the apartment with his girlfriend, Syida Adam, and their three children.
