Three residential fires erupted across Durham on Sunday, with strong thunderstorms potentially sparking at least one of the blazes. Crews also tackled a fire on Dunn Avenue where flames began outside and spread to a home's side, with quick action preventing extensive damage. Two people were displaced from this incident as well.
The most severe fire occurred in the morning at a duplex on Raynor Street. Firefighters rescued one person from the burning building, while another individual escaped. Both were transported to Duke Hospital, their conditions currently unknown.
Investigations are underway for the Raynor Street fire by the Durham Fire Marshal's Office and the North Carolina Office of State Fire Marshal. Durham County EMS provided assistance at all three incidents.
