Four Injured As Transported Durga Idol Catches Fire

Summary

  • Four youths sustained burns when a Durga idol caught fire.
  • The incident occurred due to sagging high-tension wires.
  • The idol was being transported from Burhanpur to Khandwa.

Four youths sustained burn injuries on Friday afternoon when a 15-foot-tall Goddess Durga statue accidentally contacted sagging high-tension wires. The incident occurred near Moklagaon toll booth on the Indore-Aidalabad National Highway as the idol was being transported from Burhanpur to Khandwa.

Sparks from the wires ignited the plaster of Paris idol's saree, leading to the injuries of four youths who were traveling with the statue on a trolley. They were identified as Uday, Krish, Kapil, and Raja.

The injured were promptly transported via highway ambulance to the district hospital, where they are receiving treatment and are reported to be in stable condition. The Durga idol also suffered damage, and repair work is currently underway.

Samiti president Nitesh Medhe attributed the accident to the national highways administration, citing the persistently low-hanging wires. Chhaigaon Makhan police station in-charge SN Pandey confirmed the issue with the wires' height and stated that proper notification would have allowed for safety measures.
