Director Matthew Lewis praised the staff for their swift actions in ensuring the animals' welfare during the storm. Senior birdkeeper Kris Pearson noted that while the flamingos would prefer to be outdoors, the rebuilding of their enclosure is a priority to improve their welfare. The zoo, which typically welcomes 300,000 visitors annually, is now focused on recovery and rebuilding.
