Four individuals have tragically drowned in separate incidents across Uttarakhand on Wednesday, as soaring summer temperatures intensified the allure of the region's water bodies, drawing a surge in visitors.
In Rishikesh, two colleagues from a Meerut car showroom were lost to strong currents while bathing in the Ganges under the Laxman Jhula police station limits. Search operations for their bodies are ongoing.
Meanwhile, a 19-year-old from East Delhi drowned in Haridwar's Sapt Rishi area. His body was recovered by local divers and the NDRF and has been sent for postmortem.
Another tragedy struck Roorkee's Kaliyar area, where a 20-year-old fruit vendor from Bareilly was swept away while attempting to cross the Ganga canal with friends. His body is yet to be recovered.
In response to these fatal incidents, the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) and local river police have issued urgent advisories. They strongly recommend tourists and residents to avoid bathing at restricted or unguarded ghats and to strictly follow all safety regulations to prevent further loss of life.
