Mid-Air Pig Mishap Plunges Sichuan Village into Darkness
7 Feb
Summary
- A drone transporting a pig became entangled with power lines.
- The incident caused a 10-hour electricity outage for the village.
- The farmer faces penalties for alleged no-fly zone violation and overloading.

A farmer in Tongjiang County, Sichuan Province, China, faced unexpected consequences when his attempt to transport pigs by drone resulted in a significant power outage. The incident occurred on the morning of January 24, when the farmer, whose village is in a remote, mountainous area, tried to airlift pigs to a slaughterhouse.
As the drone was lifting the first pig, its tether became entangled with a high-voltage power line during descent. This caused the pig to get stuck mid-air and left the village without electricity for 10 hours. Power was eventually restored around 5 PM that day after 12 repair workers were dispatched.
Authorities are investigating the incident, suspecting the farmer of flying in a prohibited zone and overloading the drone. If violations are confirmed, he will face administrative penalties and be responsible for compensating the power equipment damage.
