In Nagpur, a 61-year-old woman, Bhagyashree Kathiwan, tragically lost her life on Saturday evening due to alleged reckless driving. Kathiwan, a resident of Deendayal Nagar, was struck by a speeding car that had reportedly first collided with a scooter.
The car driver, identified as Harsh Palewar, is now facing charges of culpable homicide not amounting to murder. The collision with the scooter caused its rider, 19-year-old Simran Mane, to fall and sustain injuries. Mane is reported to be stable after receiving medical attention. Following the impact with Mane's scooter, the car allegedly failed to stop before hitting pedestrian Kathiwan.
The vehicle then crashed into an electric pole and a DP box. Kathiwan was declared dead upon arrival at Viveka Hospital. Police have taken Palewar into custody and are actively examining CCTV footage and interviewing witnesses to determine the full circumstances of the accident. Charges include severe sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the Motor Vehicles Act.
