At least 60 tourists staying at an unnamed hotel in Benahavís, near Marbella, were hospitalized on Sunday after a suspected poisoning from the on-site swimming pool. Regional health officials indicated that the pool's chlorine and pH control systems had malfunctioned, leading to guests becoming queasy.
An early investigation points to a potential rupture in the pressure pump responsible for injecting chlorine and acid into the water. Both children and elderly guests were among those treated at the Costa del Sol Hospital and at the hotel itself. The pool was found closed for maintenance on Monday morning, and a lab van was seen on the premises.
In a separate incident reported on the same Sunday, nine people were poisoned, and 50 others evacuated due to a chlorine leak at a swimming pool in Italy. Four children were hospitalized in critical condition after the pool pump released chlorine fumes.
