Seniors Stranded: Elevator Out for a Month
18 Jun
Summary
- Elderly residents are trapped on upper floors due to a month-long elevator outage.
- Arthritis makes navigating stairs impossible for a 83-year-old man.
- Management replaced a valve and awaits a county inspection for elevator repair.

Residents of a condominium complex near Doral have been stranded on upper floors for more than a month due to a malfunctioning elevator. An 83-year-old resident, Larry Henson, who suffers from arthritis, has been unable to use the stairs and relies on family to bring him food. He expressed feeling depressed and essentially stranded, highlighting the critical need for elevator repair.
The elevator at 7240 Fontainebleau Boulevard has been out of service since May 14. While elevators in other buildings at the complex have been restored, the primary building remains inaccessible for residents with mobility issues.
Atlas Property Management, the building's management company, confirmed that a defective elevator valve was replaced. They are now awaiting an inspection by Miami-Dade County, working in conjunction with the Advance Elevator Company. The county confirmed the valve replacement and stated a pressure test is required before the elevator can pass inspection. This test, pending the arrival of necessary weights, is scheduled for standby on the morning of the next day, with potential final inspection as late as Monday or sometime next week.
