Summary
- Dixon mobile home park explosion deemed accidental by state fire marshal.
- One resident suffered severe, life-threatening burns and required hospitalization.
- Civil action filed to preserve crucial evidence at the explosion scene.

The cause of a June 22 explosion at a Dixon mobile home park has been officially determined as accidental by the Illinois State Fire Marshal. The incident occurred at Chateau Estates, destroying one residence and leaving the occupant, Troy P. Burgess, with severe, life-threatening burns. Emergency responders evacuated approximately 106 residences as a precaution due to elevated gas levels in the park.
Following the explosion, a civil lawsuit was initiated to preserve evidence. Burgess's legal representative filed a temporary restraining order against Nicor Gas and Hauck Homes, Inc., the park's owner, to prevent alteration or disposal of scene evidence. This order was later modified by agreement.
Investigative teams have since collected critical evidence from the scene. Nicor Gas has confirmed that gas service has been restored to the community. The full extent of Mr. Burgess's recovery is not publicly disclosed.
