During a recent historic blizzard on February 23, 2026, which dropped over two feet of snow, the Embassy Diner in Bethpage, Long Island, was one of the few establishments open. Recognizing the challenging conditions, Gus Tsiorvas, the diner's owner, received a request from St. Joseph Hospital for breakfast for 80 employees.
Tsiorvas responded without hesitation, preparing and delivering a complete breakfast including pancakes, French toast, and eggs. He generously declined any payment for the meal. Hospital officials praised his kindness, noting it allowed staff to prioritize patient care during the dangerous weather and highlighted the community support for essential workers.
This act of generosity was captured by CBS News New York. Tsiorvas expressed his commitment to the community, stating his readiness to support first responders and essential workers. Hospital supervisor Joseph Saladino, along with president Joseph Manopella, were scheduled to formally recognize Tsiorvas for his commendable actions.
