Summary
- Delta Air Lines settled a lawsuit filed by the mother of one victim.
- Two men were killed by an exploding tire at Atlanta International Airport.
- The airline was previously cited by OSHA for safety violations.

Delta Air Lines has reached a settlement in a lawsuit filed by the family of Luis Aldarondo, one of two employees tragically killed over a year ago. The settlement amount remains undisclosed.
Aldarondo, 37, and Mirko Marweg, 58, lost their lives in August 2024 when a tire ruptured explosively at a maintenance facility within Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport. The incident involved a piece of metal described as flying "like a missile," causing the fatalities and seriously injuring a third individual.
The federal Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) had previously investigated the accident. OSHA issued a citation to Delta, imposing a $16,500 fine. The agency determined that Delta had failed to provide a safe work environment, exposing employees to struck-by hazards while servicing pressurized aircraft rims.
In response to the settlement, a Delta spokesperson emphasized the company's commitment to safety, stating, "At Delta, nothing is more important than safety." The airline declined to comment further on the litigation.
