Delhi: Mother-Daughter Duo Succumb to Snakebite
1 Aug
Summary
- A woman and her daughter died from snakebites in their sleep.
- Two patients were brought to a hospital after being bitten by a snake.
- Similar snakebite incidents have increased during the monsoon season.
Tragedy struck in Outer Delhi's Alipur area last week when a woman and her 13-year-old daughter died from snakebites sustained while they slept. The deceased were identified as 41-year-old Shafika Pravin and her daughter, Aafiya, residents of Triveni Colony in Bakhtawarpur.
Information was received by Alipur police after the two patients were brought to a nearby hospital. Doctors confirmed that Shafika passed away during treatment, while Aafiya, who was in critical condition, was referred for advanced care. Sadly, the teenager also died during her treatment. The family has stated they do not suspect foul play in these unfortunate events.
These deaths underscore a worrying pattern of snakebite incidents occurring during the monsoon season in the Delhi-NCR region. Last year, Noida recorded a significant number of snakebite cases between April and August. Wildlife rescuers have also reported an increase in snake rescues from residential areas, attributed to waterlogging forcing snakes from their natural habitats.
